Priority Activities & Committees for 2005-06
Promotion/P. R. (Karen Woodward ) The basic function of this committee is to promote service-learning at the district level. Potential activities:
- Print & distribute bookmarks that show connection for service-learning on six year plan (already started)
- Write articles in district publications
- Promote service-learning at district events (Parent Information Fair)
- Produce promotional video on service-learning
- Have a recognition event at district office
- Web site development/management (already started). This could or could not have its own committee. Either way it should work closely with the PR committee.
Practice& Professional Development (Peggy Knapp) The basic function of this committee is to work with district personnel to promote service-learning as a strategy for academic achievement and provide affordable professional development & technical assistance opportunities. Potential activities:
- Provide more training to include:
a. Helping teachers understand that SL is another way to do what is essential b. Training for college students and other community partners (e.g., Nov. 29th 2005, Dr. Verna)
- Make connections in the Center for Academic Excellence to influence teacher training and curriculum development
- Develop Lead Teachers in service-learning at school sites
- Continue & expand mini-grants program (may need its own committee)
Recruitment/Retention (Bernard Gill) The basic function of this committee is to make sure that there is a broad, diverse representation on the council. Potential activities:
- Assess current active membership and set targets for recruitment
- Develop specific guidelines and expectations for participation
