Curriculum Connections
To be a true service-learning project, the project must be connected to the  Academic Standards. Projects not tied to the academic standards are community service projects.

The Minnesota State Legislature adopted Academic Standards in the creative Arts, Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies in the 2003 legislative session.  In addition, the Minnesota Department of Education has developed standards for English Language Learners and Early Learning (Early Childhood).  Each school district is also required to develop local standards for Career and Technical Education, and Health and Physical Education.  Though not required, local school districts are encouraged to develop standards in World Languages.
